What You Can Expect

The psychologist who works with your family will help you to understand the reasons for your child’s difficulties and assist in developing a plan to manage and treat these problems. To do this the psychologist will need to meet with you to discuss your concerns, may ask you to complete some questionnaires, and with your consent, may conduct a school or home visit if relevant. The psychologist will also want to meet your child, and if relevant meet other significant people in your child’s life. Once this information has been gathered the psychologist will discuss with you factors that may be contributing to your child’s difficulties. A treatment plan will be developed in consultation with you.

In most instances, members of the Families in Focus team will work collaboratively with your family doctor, paediatrician and/or staff from your child’s school. Our team have established relationships with other key services and agencies supporting families and children locally, so you can be sure of receiving the best care.
